Chocolate Milk Should Not Be Served!
A letter from Dr. Ventura asked us students to write if she should serve chocolate milk in school. I believe that there should be no chocolate milk served because, one tiny carton of chocolate milk contains more sugar that a can of soda. Also children drink too much chocolate milk in the cafeteria. And lastly, chocolate milk makes kids have a lot of sugar saved at the end of the year.
The first reason I believe that chocolate milk should not be served is, that on tiny carton contains as much sugar as a full soda bottle. For example, in more Harmful Than Healthy article, it states, “Milk has 30 grams of sugar and soda has only 25 grams.”This means that everyone thinks that soda is unhealthy but, chocolate milk is the unhealthy one. Also, in the video, Tasty nutrients it even shows chocolate milk has more sugar, than soda.” This shows that kids are consuming too much sugar.
The second reason chocolate should not be served is that the kids are consuming to much sugar. For example in more Harmful Than Helpful article it “states that kids are drinking 10-15 cartons of milk!” Than means each week they consume 450 grams of sugar that is a whole lot of sugar. Also if kids continue to do this pattern week after week month after month they will have consume 10980 grams at the end of the year! . That’s a whole lot of sugar.
Which brings me to the third and last reason which is that kids have a lot of sugar stored at the end of the year. For example in more Harmful Than Healthy “it says kids end up with 2 gal of sugar at the end of the year.” This means kids are getting tons of sugar. Also in Sugar Overload “The spokesman showed a live video of all the sugar that kids are consuming. All the sugar would fill up 2 buses and keep going.” This means kids are consuming wayyy to much sugar. A quote from ASAR says that“Chocolate milk contains added sugars and therefore more calories that can lead to more overweight and obesity. In the United States, 1/3 of children are already overweight and obese and at higher risk for chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease and cancer.
Yes, chocolate milk has all the 9 essential vitamins that white milk has but then why don’t we just stick to white milk? It has the same contents so why add the sugar so it will be less healthier
This is why I believe that Chocolate MIlk should not be served at school. Next time you feel strongly about something you should write a letter to your principal and see how she/he responds.
